Beyond The Classroom: Nigerian Edtech Entrepreneur’s Aim ‘To Serve The World’

Nigerian Edtech Entrepreneur’s Aim ‘To Serve The World.’ Afrilearn CEO Isaac Oladipupo and Gabriel Olatunji-Legend created the edtech firm in 2019 with a daring goal: cheap, world-class education for Africans everywhere.

Poverty, violence, distance, and infrastructure impede decent education for millions of African children and youth. Afrilearn CEO Isaac Oladipupo and co-founder Gabriel Olatunji-Legend used their personal experiences to innovate to solve this problem.

UNESCO estimates that 98 million children in sub-Saharan Africa are out of school, and many more are in schools without the skills they need to succeed.

Afrilearn revolutionizes education in Africa with a gamified learn-and-earn feature, curriculum-relevant class notes, exam practice, animated video lessons, and a personalized learning dashboard to help elementary and high school students (ages 6-18) study easily and “achieve exam success in a single sitting.”

The founders’ firsthand experiences with Nigerian and African students’ academic issues inspired Afrilearn.

Imagine a future where every kid, regardless of background or region, has access to a great education and lifetime success skills. That notion motivated Afrilearn, Oladipupo tells FORBES AFRICA.

When my brilliant co-founder Gabriel Olatunji-Legend and I started Afrilearn in 2019, we saw that decent education is pricey, inaccessible, and uninteresting for most young Africans. We realized the urgent need for a solution after seeing the tremendous educational obstacles experienced by pupils in Nigeria and throughout Africa, resulting in high illiteracy, bad school grades, and dashed ambitions. Afrilearn was designed to bridge this gap since technology gave the greatest chance to tackle this dilemma for generations to come, says Oladipupo.

The fact that Afrilearn provides free subscription accounts is unusual. This means students may access most platform material for free.

However, a premium membership offers printable class notes, quick homework assistance with thorough explanations, coding training, live classes, individualized learning programs, and more.

We introduced free accounts to ensure no kid is left behind due to financial concerns because we value diversity. Today, Afrilearn is known as the free, enjoyable, and effective software for high grades, joining students from top private schools, public schools, underprivileged neighborhoods, and homeschoolers. We now drive educational equality, making learning fun and changing lives one lesson at a time.

Oladipupo said subscription revenue helps Afrilearn develop and expand, assuring its sustainability and effect.

Afrilearn has developed its content library with support from UNICEF, the African Union (AU), and the Kingdom of the Netherlands to meet national curricula and global educational standards.

“It has facilitated partnerships with schools and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), enabling us to reach even more students in need,” adds Oladipupo.

In addition to financial support, these organizations have boosted our credibility and reputation, inviting additional educators and professionals to cooperate with us. This network effect has increased Afrilearn’s education impact, enhancing our objective to deliver a free, world-class education for Africans everywhere.”

However, additional assistance is required to develop advanced courses and specialized disciplines to meet international students’ different interests and professional goals.

Oladipupo believes the platform will shape learning: “Every child deserves to experience Afrilearn, and our ultimate goal is to serve the world. We will develop our material collection to include more topics.

We are actively seeking relationships with educational institutions, governments, and organizations to do this. We want to reach more students and affect education via strategic relationships. We want great education to be a right for all children.”

Adeola, who passed her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in one sitting, is currently following her ambition of becoming a software engineer, Oladipupo remembers with fondness. Abdullahi, a teacher, said Afrilearn boosted classroom participation and student performance. “Our platform is a valuable educational partner tailored to each child’s learning needs,” says the Osagie family, who homeschool.

The excitement and change we see in children, teachers, and parents inspire us to innovate education. Afrilearn empowers people to reach their potential and improve their communities outside the classroom.
