AWS Data Centers Launch in South Africa

AWS unveils data centers in South Africa, to enhance network activities in the country. Amazon Web Services has officially launched its data center in the Cape Town region of its country. AWS also revealed that the AWS region in Africa could enable government organizations and businesses to build cloud applications. Government organization and businesses can also keep their data locally and reaching users with lower latency.

“The cloud is quickly transforming business and lives across Africa. And we are glad to be a part of that change,” says Senior VP of Global Infrastructure and Customer Support, Peter DeSantis.

“The company has been assisting the growth of the local technology community in the South Africa for over 15 years. During that time, developers, builders, organizations, and entrepreneurs have requested we bring AWS to most regions in Africa. And today we are unveiling it in Cape Town Region. We foresee innovation and creativity that will result from African organizations building in the cloud.”

Impact

AWS regions are made up of available zones, which feature one or more data centers located in distinct geographic locations. They are also placed in a significant distance to reduce the risk of impacting business continuity. AWS delivers low latency for high availability applications and easy usage. Its clients and customers are also focused on high availability designed to operate on multiple availability zones. And this will deliver greater fault-tolerance.

All AWS infrastructure regions around the world and those in Cape Town are equipped with standby power to allow reliable and continuous power availability. This is also necessary to maintain operations during load shedding and electrical failures in the country. With this, AWS now has a zone around the world. It has 73 availability zones within 23 geographic regions around the world. Amazon has also announced plans for twelve more availability zones around the world. AWS would be available in more regions like Japan, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, and more.
