Angelina Jolie and Nakate Talk on Racial Discrimination and Climate Issues

For many years the world has been dealing with issues on racism and climate conversation. On racial discrimination, America has reported several cases of racial discrimination. Just some months ago, a white police officer killed an African-American called George Floyd and this arose protests all over the world. Human rights activists fight for racial equality as every person has equal rights disregarding their state of skin color.

About climate conversation, several climate activists try to fight for the rights of the environment. For decades, many people do not want to protect the environment since they prefer making profits to saving lives. Factories are the most notorious in such sector as they are the number 1 contributor to global warming due to excess release of waste in the air. Angelina Jolie and Vanesa Nakate met in an interview to discuss the following issues.

She is a Ugandan climate activist. Vanessa grew up in the capital of Uganda and started her work in 2018. She graduated with a degree in B.A in the marketing sector from Makerere University. Greta Thunberg, a white climate activist, encouraged Nakate to begin her climate organization in her country.

For very many months, she was a solo activist outside the Ugandan Parliament. Later on, other young people joined her in her climate movement. Vanessa founded the Youth for Future Africa and the Rise Up Movement. Early this year, she collaborated with other young climate activists from the globe to issue a letter to members at the World Economic Forum.

She got an Academy Award and more than 2 Golden Globe Awards. Besides, Angelina Jolie has a Jean Humanitarian Award. She discusses issues on climate conversation, women’s rights, and education. Angelina Jolie is one of the most successful, influential, and powerful people in the American film industry.

Jolie has been with Jonny Lee, Billy Bob, and Pitt in her relationship life. The actress had six kids with Brad Pitt.

They both discussed on the Time 100 Talks Series. During the talk, Angelina Jolie shared stories of her life.

“My daughter is from Ethiopia, one of my children. I have learned so much from her, she is my family, but she is an extraordinary African woman. Her connection to her country, her continent, is her own and it is something I only stand back in awe of.”

Zahara is from Ethiopia and Jolie adopted her way back in 2005 from an orphanage. During the conversation, the Ugandan activist told Jolie that racial equality was a must for people to address change in the climate.

Nakate’s Controversy In January 2020

Nakate says:

“In January, an organization happened to crop me out of a photo with other climate activists. To me, that was a form of racism and it felt like the association had robbed me of my space.”

The photo came to suffice the social media during the WEC in Switzerland. She appeared with white climate activists such as Greta, Isabelle Axelson, Luisa, and Loukina Tille. Vanessa told the actress people should address the concern of racial justice to receive climate justice.
