Africa shines in World Rugby Sevens Series

In the Canada Sevens series that took place this month, Africa showed their menace power. The South African and Kenyans represented the blacks and managed to secure gold and bronze respectively.

 

The final was held on Sunday as South Africans compete with Great Britain for the gold medal. The match ended 24-12 with South Africa being ahead. South African team sprinter and Blitzboks star Mr. Plesses de Muller scored 2 tries in the final match. In the whole tournament, Muller managed to score 11 tries to lead his country to victory.

 

The southern country was very ambitious from the start of the tournament. They had won a tournament in Vancouver which gave them more energy to push forward. Vancouver’s leg took place within a few days because of the pandemic.

 

The final match was very tough. Robbie Furguson, the most influential player, gave Great Britain a try within the first two minutes. Both countries started pressing each other. South Africa dominated the match during the fourth minute. Muller gave them a there first try. In the seventh minute, Britain messed up and Blitzboks star could not spare them, he added. No one expected that. The South African’s captain, Siviwe Soyizwap, scored other two tries. In the 9th minute, south Africa was ahead with four tries, which meant it was difficult for Great Britain to equalize. Although they pushed hard, they didn’t succeed.

 

Sivewe Soyizwap admitted that it was teamwork that helped them secure the trophy. He also seconded the home fans who have been cherishing them now and then.  Furthermore, he assured much praise to the scouts and academy for high-quality players selected to represent the national team at international levels.

 

World Rugby Sevens announced the HSBC Champions on Sunday at 11:15 pm on their twitter account. They also wrote about the best player, Mr. Muller. The board praised him for this hard work and passion for rugby. For sure, he has become the hero within a short of period of 5 years playing international games. They wrote ‘Muller Du Plessis made a splash all weekend for the @Blitzboks. Then, South African was tagged.

 

Throughout the tournament, South Africa conceded only 24. The South African dominated in most matches. From 6 matches, they secured 251 points.

 

Other legendary players like Tom Bowen also managed to score tries in the competition. From all the seven competitions he got involved in, he has managed to score 99 tries. Du Plessis tackled him when he was on the way to score the 100th try. Great Britain cherished their legend, and we are not sure if he will participate in another match.

 

Kenya secured third place to bring home a bronze by beating Canada 33-14. They came third in the Vancouver league and had to fight for the third position. Although the East African country disappointed their fans in Tokyo, they had many hopes in this competition. They struggled to make it to the top. The fans were ready, waiting to get the best results from Shujaa. Among the most celebrated tries was when Alvin Otieno knocked down an opponent. World Rugby Sevens twitted ‘Alvin Otieno doing Alvin Otieno things.

 

Many teams missed the Canada tournament due to Covid-19. Australia, Samoa, New Zealand were under strict quarantine measures. Furthermore, the Tokyo winners Fiji did not appear in the tournament.

 

In women’s tournament, Great Britain took the gold medal after beating the USA 22-5. The two men and women tournament will be held in Dubai next year. The board management of Rugby sevens said they are planning on more tournaments in Sydney, New Zealand, and Hamilton.
