Africa Data Centre (ADC) will soon begin construction on a new data center in Accra, Ghana. The company announced that it will soon begin construction on land it recently purchased in the city’s Central Business District.
The International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) of the United States contributes to the facility’s initial funding. A 10MW with the potential for expansion to 30MW.
The first phase of the Ghana Trade Fair Redevelopment Project, located in the La Dade Kotopon Municipal District, is expected to be completed in 12 months.
ADC first its intention to build a data center in Ghana in 2022, it provided few details at the time. The plot’s dimensions and purchase price were kept hidden.
The current location of the Ghana Trade Fair Center was once a massive fairground covering more than 125 acres. It was built in the 1960s. In 2019, the Ghana Trade Fair Company and Stellar Holding Pte agreed to build a new commercial park.
Tesh Durvasula, CEO of Africa Data Centres, stated that “our new data center in Ghana is a significant step towards our goal of narrowing the digital divide in the West African region.”

An investment in critical infrastructure
This new Accra building is an investment in critical infrastructure that will improve access to global opportunities for Africa’s rapidly growing population and market.
According to the DFC, “President Biden’s commitment to mobilize private capital for the kinds of high-quality global infrastructure investments that improve people’s lives is consistent with DFC’s commitment to strengthen ICT infrastructure in West Africa.”
ADC operates or is building data centers in Nairobi, Kenya, Lagos, Nigeria, Accra, Ghana, and Lomé, Togo. It is also based in the Johannesburg neighborhoods of Samrand and Midrand.
The company has begun work on a new facility in Nairobi, Kenya, and plans to build a data center in Cape Town, South Africa.
