On Monday, June 19th, 2023, the Kremlin said it would continue talks with a group of African countries seeking to mediate the Ukraine conflict, including at a Russia-Africa conference next month, and that some of their suggestions were feasible.
On Saturday, President Vladimir Putin handed the seven-country African group in St. Petersburg a litany of reasons why he thought many of their recommendations were foolish, casting doubt on a plan Kyiv had already rejected.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said negotiations with the group would continue since some of its ideas may be implemented. He did not specify the proposals.
“In general, the dialogue with the Africans will continue,” stated Peskov.
President Putin said the delegation’s ideas might be implemented.
“This work will continue, including at the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg next month,” Peskov said.
