The state media reports that five of Guinea-Bissau’s seven judges have been suspended for refusing to investigate a case linked to the attempted coup last year.
According to the ANG website, “military sources” claim that the head of the military court has regarded the judges’ refusal to hear the case of individuals accused of the attempted coup as insubordination.
According to the report, the five judges stopped turning up to work on April 13 after presenting themselves to General Biague Na N’Tan, the commander of the armed forces.
The justices concluded that the case should be moved to civil courts since it was outside their authority.
In February of last year, the president and prime minister were held hostage for over six hours by unknown gunmen until the military intervened.
Eighteen persons are now being detained on suspicion of being involved in the crime.
