According to local media, a court in Nigeria has given the rooster’s owner until Friday to shoot the fowl after receiving disturbance complaints from neighbors.

According to the news website Premium Times, a court in the northern city of Kano declared the rooster a public nuisance because its incessant crowing prevented two neighbors from sleeping.

Yusuf Muhammed, a neighbor, complained to the court that the rooster’s crowing disturbed his slumber.

Isyaku Shu’aibu informed the court that he intended to slaughter the chicken for a family meal on Good Friday and asked for additional time to do so.

According to reports, on Tuesday, Magistrate Halima Wali authorized the petition, but advised him to prevent the rooster from roaming the neighborhood and disturbing the residents.

The proprietor was also warned that he could face legal action if the bird is not slaughtered on Friday as promised.
