On Tuesday, a French court said that the oil company TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) cannot be sued over its controversial oil projects in Uganda and Tanzania.
Six French and Ugandan activists filed this lawsuit. The French business allegedly failed to protect people and the environment while developing Tilenga oil and a pipeline in Africa Oriental.
However, TotalEnergies and the organizations that asked did not respond right away.
Furthermore, the activists have urged the court to order TotalEnergies to suspend East African projects.This was in a landmark lawsuit based on a 2017 French legislation. This legislation holds huge firms accountable for environmental and human rights hazards.
