In northwestern Nigeria, gunmen attacked two villages on Saturday. It’s in the same region where a military base got attacked last week. Almost 40 people have been killed as other residents suffer injuries. The jihadists are the first suspect, a report by authorities released yesterday.
An authority spokesman said an unidentified gang of men attacked the Madamai village in Kaura district early Sunday morning. 34 residents died on the spot. Most of them were hit by bullets and they shed much blood before the rescue Red cross-team arrived. 7 more people got minor injuries, although they are still bedridden in hospitals.
In Jankas village, one resident got killed on Saturday. In the following village, Kacecere, eight citizens followed the troop of deceased people. The other six residents got major and minor injuries. The worst is when some houses were burnt and others are destroyed. The unidentified men did all this for no mutual or specific reason.
As per the report released by the spokesman, there is no clarity on whether the attacks took place on Sunday or early Monday. But the involved parties are still under investigation. The retaliatory attack really caused a shock to the villagers.
The sedentary farmers in northern and central Nigeria and the transhuman herders have had a bitter relationship for many years. There is competition for the available natural resources but the problem has never gotten a solution. Some accused others of pondering their land while allowing livestock to feed in anyhow.
Nigeria has almost 200 million people, according to recent statistics. There has been an abrupt increase in population. The climatic changes have also led to poor conditions in some areas. All these factors have caused the security crisis in the land. The armed bandit has attacked many regions, demolishing some communities.
The report had information about the criminals widely called the bandits. Their min work being to kidnap residents randomly and steal their livestock. The gangs have a planned timetable and this means they have a central management point. The report indicated how they had planned to go viral in universities and colleges to destroy students. According to UNICEF, 1400 students have fallen short of the gangs this year.
There is a documented material that has some of their plans. They are said to be linking with the jihadists in the Northwestern part of Nigeria.
Army military officers said the Islamic suspects, residing in the northern part, also attacked Burkusuma camp in the Sokoto region. The jihadists are associated with the hiding place of the group for almost 12 years.
The investigation is still on although the military officers think it will be too late if the team delay. A large part of Sokoto regions is not able to operate their phones because their networks were down. The decision was from the investigation team. Sawyer replied ‘The attackers arrived in large numbers using telephone networks in the neighboring country (Niger)’.
The Nigerian Military has also warned another group of 200 fighters from the jihadist community. The operation is still under harsh search and it kicked off in early September. The bandits are said to hide in Sokoto, Katsina, and Kaduna communities. The military has imposed strict laws in those areas.
