The former South African president has made a no-show at the top court. According to the South Africa supreme court, Jacob Zuma appeared before the court following a corruption case. A case that for the longest time now, Zuma remains adamant in refuting the allegations. The court holds Jacob Zuma accountable for corruption cases during his reign as the president. Chief Justice Raymond Zondo presiding over the case confirms the absence of Zuma in court. Zuma was scheduled to appear before the State Capture Commission on the 15th of February at 10 am. However, Zuma has sorted for defiance to the court order.
Reasons for Jacob Zuma defiance
According to Zuma`s lawyer, Eric Mabuza backs up Zuma`s actions. Siting a comment in his Twitter account, Eric discloses that Zuma is not defying either the court or the commission. Instead, Zuma is awaiting the recusal of justice. Raymond Zondo. Zuma had initially made the application, and he is awaiting feedback on the same.
Call for Zondo`s recusal
Jacob Zuma accuses Zondo of biasness. Apparently, both of them were friends. A notion that Zondo bitterly scrapped off refuting the friendship allegations. Nonetheless, Zuma went ahead and filed for a recusal. Drawing from Zuma`s advocate, Zondo creates a perception portraying Zuma as responsible for corruption cases during his presidency.
Zuma`s corruption cases
Zuma`s corruption charges ranging from accepting bribes, money laundry, corruption, racketeering, and fraud. He is also facing charges over an arms deal with France back when he was the Deputy President. Zuma has denied all these charges terming them as a political witch hunt against him. 2018 marks the year when his charges were made official. As a result, he was forced to resign from his presidency ever since Zuma has been making attempts to delay his hearing in court with various attempts of failing to appear in court for the same.
