Italy Could Relax Lockdown Measures Within Weeks, But Much of Europe Reels as a Virus Nears Peak.

Italy could ease the Draconian measures it reinstated amid coronavirus pandemic. The country’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte said that they were looking forward to easing the lockdown restrictions.

“We need to pick sectors that can restart their activity. If scientists confirm it, we might relax some measures already by the end of this month,” he told BBC.

The daily figures might be falling in Italy.

The country has suffered a great economic impact and is looking forward to receiving help from the neighboring European states. Seemingly, the number of new cases has declined in Italy while neighboring countries are recording a lot of new corona cases.

 

The daily death tolls in Italy is gradually declining. On Wednesday the total death tolls amounted to 542. This is a decline from the death tolls recorded on March 27th. According to the data analysis by Johns Hopkins University, about 17699 people have succumbed to the virus. Consequently, the total confirmed cases as of now is 139422. Though not completely accurate. Despite the daily figures dropping, the virus continues to spread rapidly.

 

Prime Minister Conte noted that as the virus takes a toll, the Italian nation is suffering. Nationalities have lost their homes, loved ones and even businesses. Although they need help, the damage is beyond repair.

While Italy may have recovered from the peak of the outbreak, other parts of Europe may be in problems.

Confirmed cases and death tolls spike up in Italy and Germany.

Although Italy appears to recover, other European nations are overwhelmed by the pandemic. Spain has overtaken Italy in terms of total confirmed corona cases. The number of infected persons is as high as 148220 while new cases keep streaming daily. On Wednesday, the deaths increased by 757 hence totaled to 14792 deaths.

 

The virus is also spreading rampantly in Germany. The number of confirmed cases rose by 4974 hence recording a total of 108202 people. Consequently, within the past 24 hours,246 people succumbed, raising the death toll to 2107.

Indefinite lockdown in France.

As much as some western Europe governments plan on lifting lockdowns, some say it’s quite early especially with coronavirus pandemic.

As Italy plans to gradually ease on lockdown restrictions, the government of France did an extension. The announcement will be passed by President Emmanuel Macron to the French nationalities. Urging citizens to remain indoors.

The extension precedes increased death toll after hospitals confirmed 541 new fatal cases. Therefore, the total of infected persons in France is 83080.

An upsurge of UK death tolls.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the country recorded the largest daily increase of 938 deaths, increasing the total death toll to 7097. As of now, there is an overall of 61474 confirmed cases in the country i.e. inclusive of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit after his condition deteriorated from severe coronavirus symptoms. He is, however, receiving proper medication, and there is hope he will recover soon. Since his condition is improving, and he engages positively with the clinical team.

 

Conte requests support from the European States.

Conte, together with other southern European states have been seeking aid from the EU. Especially since it is suffering economic crises because of the corona. The countries together requested the EU to issue joint bonds to the affected countries. He said that that was an opportunity for the European states to remain in solidarity. However, countries like Germany and the Netherlands opposed the idea of joint debt. Arguing they wouldn’t risk their financial status.
