Facebook has announced the launch of its Community Accelerator Program. This program will be available to the citizen of Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa. The program will be for six months and it aims to provide mentorship, training, and funding to help community leaders grow their communities. Individuals will be selected for the program and will spend up to three months learning from coaches, experts, and working within a customized curriculum to grow their communities.
Effect of the program
“Our vision is to empower young people with skills, connect them to caring mentors and help them build networks. By participating in the Facebook Community Accelerator Program, it has helped us to learn how to elevate our resources. And also how we use digital platforms to multiply our impact” says Lusanda Magwape of the Dream Factory Foundation, a leader from South Africa who took part in the initiative.
“We are using all our effort to invest in leaders because we believe they will make excellent contributions to today’s social challenges. By sharing information, knowledge, and helping people connect with others these shared interests or passions will deliver a good cause eventually,” said Kiran Yoliswa, Strategic Partner Manager for Sub Saharan Africa at Facebook.
As it aims to facilitate community leadership, the participants were chosen from a pool of many applicants. Facebook also aims to invest in community leaders with huge groups on its network. The firm has also been attracting people with similar interests who will engage in quality conversation on the platform.
What it entails
After six months of learning, another three months will be spent gathering and executing plans developed during the training. With this, a substantial result will make a Facebook initiative in Africa more effective. Facebook will also reward the 80 participants worldwide a cash prize. The firm plans to award up to $3 million to all participants.
Interested applicant must be 18 years or older and must be a citizen of South Africa, Kenya, or Nigeria. The program kicks off in June 2020. Facebook also has other investments in creating community leaders. The program will be held in Facebook Community Learning Labs across the world. The lab connects admins with a similar goal in a collaborative digital classroom to facilitate structured learning. The admins also work towards achieving the goals of the group admins.
The outcome of the program
Participants will have access to learn more about Facebook’s programs and product education. Tips and tools are also provided to facilitate learning, starting and managing a growing community. The initiative is also expected to improve the economy of the countries involved and also to provide more start-up companies. The initiative also aims at developing more community leaders and entrepreneurs.
