Covid-19 Disease
So far, almost everyone is aware of the deadly virus spreading across the world. Many have died from the disease despite the restrictions and measures in place. If you listen to or read the news, you understand what I am saying. It is a tragedy indeed, but giving up is not an option.
For instance, have a look at Africa, now with more than twelve thousand confirmed cases. Fifty-two countries in the continent have confirmed the infection. Comoros and Lesotho are yet to report their first cases. Most of the African nations are awakening and opening up their minds for new solutions. Almost everyone is ready to impose outlaid preventive as well as containment measures.
Coronavirus tally is rising in Africa
As of 8th April, the fifty-two countries record a significant rise in new virus cases. According to the data released by John Hopkins University, Africa has 632 deaths. Egypt leads with at least one thousand, six hundred, and ninety-nine confirmed infection cases. South Africa is the runners up, with one thousand, nine hundred and thirty-four. It follows Algeria with 1666, Morocco, with 1374 incidents.
Hopkins University has promised to keep everyone updated through its sub-continental blocs. These blocs are in East, West, North, Central as well as Southern Africa. For instance, Tanzania belongs to East Africa despite being in SADC as well as EAC.
Africans motivated to fight against COVID-19
African leaders are coming forth to encourage citizens to fight against the Coronavirus. For instance, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni exercises in his office. As per the reports, there is a video of Yoweri running laps as well as doing pushups. Mr. Museveni encourages citizens to stay fit while indoors, as it is good for health.
Although Africans are afraid to dies of hunger, the Zambia President advises the African community to hold on tight. Furthermore, On Thursday, he urged residents to wear face masks at all times. Besides, some of the African governments are ready to embrace the lockdown extension to prevent virus spread. A good example is South Africa, which announced to add more days on Thursday night.
Mr. Ramaphosa says if the lockdown policy comes to an end soon, the cases might go up. He adds that the resurge of the disease will be hard to control. Ramaphosa says the lockdown has helped South Africa to contain the virus. The country featured a forty-two percent increase in COVID-19 cases, but with the lockdown, it has reduced to four percent.
Conclusion
It is high time as Africans we impose the outlaid measures so as we can overcome the virus spread. As you see, South Africa shows the benefit of the lockdown policy. Despite the speculated reduction in Coronavirus cases, we should not relax but to hold on tight.
