According to the Chinese Tianjin University of Technology and Teaching, Ethiopia and China have been working to deepen their connections by extending their collaboration in teaching technological skills via the Luban Workshop.

The purpose of the Luban Workshop, which was established by the government of China in 2021 at the Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute in Addis Ababa (which was formerly known as the Ethiopian Technical University), was to provide high-level training in technical skills to assist college students in meeting the requirements of the new global market.

Under the direction of the Ministry of Education in China, the Chinese Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE) was the organization responsible for launching the workshop.

It is located in the realm of artificial intelligence. It offers undergraduate programs with concentrations in various technological fields, including manufacturing, electronics, communication, and electrical and control technology.

It was said that the Luban workshop in Addis Ababa provides services not just for Ethiopia but also for the East Africa area.

The media representatives from Africa and the Arab world went to Tianjin University of Technology.

During the tour, the representatives from the university provided information about the institution and its collaboration with other nations via the Luban workshop initiative.

Professor Lv Jingquan, who is also the Vice President of the institution and the primary inventor of the Luban workshop brand, explained the workshop’s creative technique. The Vice President of Ethiopia said to the Ethiopian News Agency that the friendship between Ethiopia and China would remain forever and that the two countries have built significant diplomatic cooperation in various fields.

He went on to say that the Luban workshop project is one of the main areas of collaboration where the two nations work together in the field of education.

The development of technical and skilled skills people for the sector is essential, and the collaboration between the two nations at Luban workshops helps not just Ethiopia but also the East Africa area as a whole.

He remarked: “We hope that through the headquarters of the African Union, we will be able to serve the entire continent of Africa.” The Engineering Practice Innovation Program Research and Promotion (EPIP) concept has been successfully implemented in Ethiopia in recent years.

According to him, students from other East African nations travel to the Luban workshop in Ethiopia to acquire training in various technical and vocational fields. Several nations in the area have recently voiced their wish to replicate Ethiopia’s success in launching the Luban workshop.

Professor Jingquan is grateful to the Ethiopian minister of labor and skills for his dedication to assisting in the project’s promotion and assisting.

It has been reported that the Ethiopian Luban Workshop provides vocational institutions in the nations of East Africa with approximately 600 class hours of diverse courses spanning all levels of instruction. The workshop cultivates and trains 350 local instructors and students, expanding its sphere of influence.

As of August 2023, Tianjin University has established more than 20 Luban workshops in more than 20 nations.

The objective is to train instructors who are creative, brilliant, and knowledgeable with Chinese technology to encourage the use of foreign goods.

Tianjin University of Technology and Education is a university that was founded in 1979 in the country of China. Its primary objective is to educate future educators in the field of vocational education.
