Kenya is okay to move on with the AstraZeneca vaccination campaign. The confirmation comes from its Chief administrative secretary of the health ministry, Mercy Mwangangi. She further went on to dismiss any news surfacing concerning the efficiency of the drug. Mercy continues to state that Kenya`s health ministry has done its own analysis for the drug and affirms it is good to go. Kenya has procured 24 million doses of the vaccine from the British-Swedish Pharmaceutical company. Unlike South Africa, Kenya is looking forward to rolling out the vaccine to its patients. Priority is to the health workers, terminally ill, police teachers, and the elderly.
South Africa halts AstraZeneca Vaccine rollout.
Recently, South Africa has put a halt to the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. South African health officials say the vaccine is less effective, especially on the new variant. South Africa purchased 1.5 million AstraZeneca vaccine to administer to its 1.25 million health workers. Tests from the labs confidently back up the decision from South Africa. The country has decided to go with the J&J vaccine, although it is yet to be approved.
Kenya moves on regardless.
However, the South Africa events will not affect Kenya`s decision. Mercy and the rest of the health ministry hope to receive its doses in the course of this month. And vaccination will immediately commence. AstraZeneca vaccine requires two shots for a complete dosage. So 12 million Kenyan citizens are expected to receive the vaccine.
Kenya`s preparation
As much as Kenya is awaiting the vaccine, it is tasked to convince its people to take the vaccine. Most of the Africans are pessimistic about the vaccine, and Kenya is not far from this. Although, no one will be forced into taking the Vaccine. However, an awareness campaign on the importance of the vaccine will be highly in play.
