Thabo Bester: Tanzanian “Facebook rapist” apprehended

South Africa denies U.S. charges of arming Russia.

After faking his own death in prison in South Africa, a convicted rapist and murderer has been captured in Tanzania.

Thabo Bester escaped for a whole year after it was thought he committed himself by setting fire to his cell.

A search was launched last month when new postmortem findings revealed that the body was not his.

Bester, his girlfriend, and a third suspect were detained on Friday; all three will be extradited to South Africa.

Police believed the three of plotting to cross into neighboring Kenya.

Bester has gained the moniker “Facebook rapist” due to his use of Facebook to entice his victims.

In 2012, he was convicted of raping and murdering his model girlfriend Nomfundo Tyhulu. He’d been convicted a year prior of raping and robbing two other women.

He was found dead in his cell at the Mangaung Correctional Institution near Bloemfontein in May, presumably after setting himself on fire.

But, at the close of last year, the local media began to throw doubt on Bester’s claimed demise.

A second murder investigation was launched in March when it was discovered that the deceased was not Bester and died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head.

The British security business G4S maintained the prison where he was held, and its personnel have been suspected of assisting his escape.

According to the firm, three employees were dismissed as a result of the incident.

Delegates from the organization missed a discussion about Bester’s escape in parliament earlier this week.

Many sightings of Bester have occurred in the past year, including allegations that he was grocery shopping in a rich suburb of Johannesburg and renting a property there.

Bester’s escape provoked controversy in South Africa, which has one of the worst rates of sexual assault in the world.
