Artificial Intelligence And Robotic Skills In Education.

Permit me to say that; Education is an essential commodity that, without its direction, one may be lost. It is described as the process of facilitating learning. Education is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. However, education can be acquired through observations, teaching in a formal or an informal setting, training, and research. Education also means teaching a group of people or supporting them to think upon an idea that would impact them and their community. Different subjects have been inculcated into the formal system of education, such as Science, in other to develop skilled minds. Science in education plays a significant role in building our understanding of the world. It also brings out the creativity in us that enhances the creation of technologies and innovations for positive change and improvement of man’s activities.

Importance Of Science In Education

  • It starts with the science teacher’s ability to harness a child’s natural curiosity and instilling a love of science in them. By so doing, the child would be inspired to learn more about science, thereby preparing them for the future.
  • Science, when taught in schools, helps children to develop skills such as; problem-solving, research, and communication. It develops their minds so that they could generate ideas that are relevant to handling issues of daily activities.
  • Scientific reporting aids literacy and language development because it demands thorough observation and accurate account. The process of writing a detailed report of what they see base on their understanding helps their writing skill.
  • Science helps children value information since they have to seek information from numerous sources and prove what is true based on evidence. This enhances them in such a way that they could take decisions independently in life since they can separate fact from fiction.
  • Science in education encourages critical thinking in learners. This helps to develop their curiosity to solve problems. With critical thinking, they can connect what they learn with the world in impacting ways.

Artificial Intelligence And Robotic Skill In Diepsloot

First-hand exposure of learners to science in Diepsloot South Africa during the 15weeks AI & Robotics For the Future Programme http://goodnewsdaily.co.za. The training helped the learners acquire AI and Robotic skills, which challenged the minds of the learners to think critically. The group of grade 9 learners went into the streets looking for the challenges in their community and how they can use scientific innovation to tackle whatever challenge. Guess what they found, I bet you would be amazed at the problem they provided solutions to in their environment. Although their designs were prototypes, it means that the training was able to harness the potential in them. The program was made possible by Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) in South Africa and Next-Generation Educational Specialist. The prototypes displayed at the end of the competition included;

  • A Crime-stopping Robot
  • A robot that can clean the streets and sort recycling
  • A solar-powered generator to power homes and appliance
  • A water-purifying robot
  • A cell phone controlling home robot
  • A solar-powered cooking pot.

Conclusion

Science Teachers have a role to play in birthing the next generation of scientists and inventors because they have to instill the love of science in learners.  Science teachers should encourage learners to ask questions, seek answers, collect data, and conduct investigations in love. Thereby building learner’s curiosity and willingness since they can understand the world through science.
